Port Angeles Recap

Hi Friends!

This past weekend, I went on a road trip to Port Angeles, WA with my grandparents. It was a really fun time, and it was nice to get to sort of take a break, relax and enjoy life during this busy summer. Here is everything I did and ate!

We drove an hour and a half from our home in North Seattle to my grandparents’ house in Bremerton. There, we played doubles on their newly cleaned and painted tennis court with a nice view of Port Orchard, and had a really good lunch of kichadi (India’s unofficial national dish), sundal (beans curry), and honeycrisp apple juice, made by my grandmother (the BEST food on the trip). We also picked some apples from their tree!

Afterwards, we drove two hours to Port Angeles, on the northern coast in Clallam County, WA, in our newly rented white Chrysler Pacifica minivan. On our way there, we went to the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, WA, where there were elk, bison, yak and other animals literally looking through our windows! I may have been a little scared (my brother was LOVING IT, he’s an animal geek iykyk), but we all still had a fun time there. Definitely a must-see if you love animals.

Then, we made our way to Port Angeles. We checked in to the Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor, a beautiful harborside hotel with HUGE, modern and really nice rooms, for one night. We walked over to the Jasmine Bistro for dinner, eating amazing Thai food with the family near the hotel. We then headed over to Hollywood Beach with a BEAUTIFUL view of Port Angeles Harbor, before heading to the pier. Me and my grandfather walked up a few flights of stairs to the top where it was super windy, but we got the best view of the harbor and the coastal city. We then headed back to our rooms for the night.

The next day, we were looking for good walkable breakfast spots in the area and all six of us like one breakfast item especially: bagels. We ended up taking a 10-minute walk from the hotel to Atomic Bagel, some of the best bagels in Port Angeles. Must-try. I got the garlic rosemary bagel with butter as well as a plain bagel with garlic & herb cream cheese which were both AMAZING. We then headed to Olympic National Park, driving up to Hurricane Ridge then taking a nice hike up there with beautiful mountain views. We had lunch at a really good Indian place called Great Indian Restaurant, which impressed us for a restaurant that was only 6 months old! We went back near the harbor and headed to Ediz Hook, a 3-mile-long sand spit that extends into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which had spectacular panoramic views of Vancouver Island (there is a ferry that goes from Port Angeles to there) and the Olympic Mountains. We then drove back to Bremerton briefly before driving home.

Overall, this was a really nice trip and mental reset after a very busy summer. While most of our trips are much longer, sometimes one night out just relaxing and enjoying with the family is exactly what we need. I encourage you to check out Port Angeles, WA if you're nearby and if not, find a place near you, ideally with water and national park vibes to mentally reset.
