Hi Friends!
Hope you're all doing well this lovely Monday evening. If you haven't yet checked out Chess Endgames 101, please do! This is part two in that series and designed to help you master endgames. Remember what Capablanca said:
"In order to improve your game, you must study the endgame before everything else."
First, we're going to start with how to checkmate with just a King and a Rook. You know how to ladder mate with two Rooks from 101 so it's time to kick it up a notch! It's similar to the King and Queen checkmate you learned in 101 but it's a little trickier. Watch the video below then practice over the board with a friend!
You know how to checkmate with a King and Queen from 101. Suppose you only have a Pawn! Remember that a Pawn that advances all the way to the last rank across the board can become a Queen! In the video below, I teach you how to win King and Pawn versus King endgames. Note that this isn't always a win and I will cover drawing techniques defending this in a future Endgame blog.
Like with the King + Rook vs King, find a friend to practice this with. Like with anything, getting your reps in goes a long way. If you haven't yet, please be sure to Like this blog and Subscribe to my site Home | Prodigy Strats. I send an exclusive Newsletter to subscribers from time to time that you won't want to miss!
That's all for today! See y'all next time! Sarang out.
