26-27 NBA Preview
Hi Friends!
Hope you're doing well. I'm 13 today and what better time to preview the 2026-2027 NBA season. The season begins October 20th with a triple-header where Joe Mazzulla’s Celtics travel to Detroit to play against a reigning Eastern Conference #1 seed Pistons at 12pm PDT, the most hyped offseason team 76ers with newly added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown head to the Garden to play Jalen Brunson’s reigning champ NY Knicks at 4pm PDT, and a Western Conference Finals revenge game with the Thunder taking on the Spurs in San Antonio. For our #TLDR friends, here’s a quick summary of my 26-27 NBA predictions before I dive deeper into my full playoff picture.
For more info on the offseason, check out my WAY TOO EARLY NBA Post Apocalypse Rankings. Just to add some extra layers to this piece, my dad (Siva), who coaches basketball, will add his comments in his favorite color, PINK, and my baller brother (Vivaan, check out his Vivaan's Corner | Prodigy Strats for a fun new set of chess puzzles btw) whose u10 team Lightning is undefeated rn, and well positioned to make a run at their first title (they were runner ups last season), will add his comments in his favorite color, PURPLE.
I have the OKC Thunder beating the Indiana Pacers (Haliburton is back and 100%) in a 2025 NBA Finals rematch, with the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks as conference finalists.

My projected playoff seeding looks like this (note that four teams who are #7-#10 in their respective conference play play-in games to decide who gets #7 and #8 in the playoffs)
Western Conference
#1 Thunder
SGA unstoppable, great bigs
No. Just no. My Sonics will return and forever defeat this team. #206Pride
#2 Lakers
Luka MVP season incoming, great offseason moves
#3 Spurs
Wemby is an animal, real contenders
Watch out for Harper and Castle too. This team wins the West. EASY.
Agreed young Wemby. This team can't be stopped in the West.
#4 Rockets
KD, Amen and Sengun are a pretty great trio
#5 Nuggets
Maybe the last year of Jokic’s prime?
The West is the worst it's been *relatively* in a loooooong time. This team is very good. I have 'em in my Western Conference final.
#6 Timberwolves
Newly added Lamelo Ball and Ant? Maybe the best guard duo
Live and die by the three ball. I have them in my Western Conference final.
#7 Trail Blazers
Ja Morant, Damian Lillard, Deni Avdija and Clingan? Scary!
#8 Mavericks
Flagg & Morez young forward duo leading the way
#9 Warriors
Can the oldies do it again?
Agreed but ouch. Besides Big Al (Go Gators!), I'd be the eldest on that team lol.
#10 Suns
DBook get ready to cook
Eastern Conference
#1 Cavaliers
Great chemistry, great reg season team
#2 Celtics
They can lose any of their players, but as long as Joe Mazzulla is their coach, they can do anything
These guys are my champs. Tatum is HIM, and I would love to see the Harper bros battle for the chip!
#3 Knicks
Reigning champs. That’s it.
We running it back fam! Can't stop the Brun, OG, KAT trio.
Would love to see it Dad but I have us losing to the Celts in the Eastern Conference finals. Go Knicks!
#4 Pacers
Guess who’s back. Back again. Hali’s back. Tell a friend.
#5 Heat
Giannis and Bam.
#6 Pistons
#1 seed last season, Cade & Duren leading the way
I have this team in my Eastern Conference finals. Another year of experience for the young legends and NO ONE scores on Ausar, my DPOY.
#7 Hawks
NGL all teams should be scared of CJ McCollum
#8 Raptors
Kawhi reunion, great second-year coach. Expecting great things
#9 76ers
They have the talent, but chemistry and injuries?
I'm much higher on this squad especially if ego and minutes management goes right, which Nurse should handle, but they're not winning it all.
#10 Magic
Seattle legend Paolo Banchero leads the way for a likely play-in team
For the play-in, the #7 seed plays the #8 seed. Winner gets the #7 seed in the playoffs, and whoever loses plays the winner of seeds #9 and #10 for the #8 seed in the playoffs. For the Western Conference, I think that the Trail Blazers beat the Mavericks to claim the #7 seed, the Warriors beat the Suns and then the Mavericks as well to claim the #8 seed. As for the East, Raptors beat Hawks claiming #7, 76ers beat Magic and Hawks for #8. Each matchup in playoffs is a 7-game series afterwards.
Here’s what I’ve got for the Western Conference playoffs:
As for Eastern Conference:
I think that the reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will lead the Thunder to win their second championship in their history (the 1979 Seattle Supersonics title is ours, and *should* return home once we get our new team, come on Silver, vote us in), the first being in 2025.
Here are my award predictions with averages:
MVP:
Luka Doncic, LAL: Avg 38.7 PTS, 9.1 REB, 9.9 AST
Jayson Tatum all day
